Does Bob Kerrey Understand the 2nd Amendment?

After last night's election results, the 2012 race to fill Ben Nelson's Senate seat is set. Sarah Palin-endorsed State Senator Deb Fischer (R) will meet former Nebraska Senator & former Governor Bob Kerrey (D) in the November general election.

As a Nebraskan, I want to know if Bob Kerrey understands the 2nd Amendment to Constitution of the United States.

The 2nd Amendment to the United States Constitution:
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Announcer: This is a message to Charlton Heston from Senator Bob Kerrey.

Kerrey (at a trap-shooting range w/ gun in hand after having just fired a shot): I'm a hunter & I believe in the Constitutional right to bear arms. When it's time to hunt birds you need a good gun like this Ruger Red Label. 25 years ago (in) the war in Vietnam people hunted me. They needed a good weapon like this AK-47 (holding up AK-47) but you don't need one of these to hunt birds.

Announcer: Bob Kerrey, the courage to lead.

One more time, Bob:
The 2nd Amendment to the United States Constitution:
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

When or if "We The People" ever have a "need to secure a free state," it won't be birds that will be threatening our freedom. I would think that as a veteran of the Vietnam war, Bob would understand this better than most of us.

State Senator Deb Fischer is a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment and has received an A+ rating from the National Rifle Association.
